The History of Sheer

Historically, even though the word sock is at least as ancient in origin, what men normally wore were often referred to as stockings, probably especially when referring to longer hose.  The word stock used to refer to the bottom “stump” part of the body, and by analogy the word was used to refer to the one-piece covering of the lower trunk and limbs of the 15th century—essentially tights consisting of the upper-stocks (later to be worn separately as knee breeches) and nether-stocks (later to be worn separately as stockings).  Pretty interesting, I know, haha.

Before the 1590s, stockings were made of woven cloth. The first knitting machines were for making stockings.  The stockings themselves were made of cotton, linen, wool or silk. A polished cotton called lisle was common, as were those made in the town of Balbriggan.  Before the 1920s, stockings, if worn, were worn for warmth. In the 1920s, as hemlines of dresses rose and central heating was not widespread, women began to wear flesh-colored stockings to cover their exposed legs. Those stockings were sheer, first made of silk or rayon, then known as “artificial silk” and after 1940 of nylon fabric.

The introduction of nylon in 1939 by DuPont, began a high demand for stockings in the United States with up to 4 million pairs being purchased in one day. Nylon stockings were cheap, durable, and sheer compared to their cotton and silk counterparts. When America entered World War II, DuPont ceased production of nylon stockings and retooled their factories to produce parachutes, airplane cords, and rope. This led to a shortage and the creation of a black market for stockings. At the end of the war DuPont announced that the company would return to producing stockings, but could not meet demand. This led to a series of disturbances in American stores known as the nylon riots until DuPont was able to increase production, which is kinda crazy to me.

A precursor of pantyhose made an appearance in the 1940s and 1950s, when film and theater productions had stockings sewn to the briefs of actresses and dancers, according to actress-singer-dancer Ann Miller and seen in popular films such as Daddy Long Legs. Today, stockings are commonly made using knitted wool, silk, cotton or nylon. The introduction of commercial pantyhose in 1959 gave an alternative to stockings, and the use of stockings declined dramatically. A main reason for this was the trend towards higher hemlines on dresses (see minidress). In 1970, U.S. sales of pantyhose exceeded stockings for the first time, and has remained this way ever since. Beginning in 1987, sales of pantyhose started a slight decline due to the newly invented hold-ups, but still remain the most sold kind of hosiery.  I got most of this from wikipedia, btw.

As far as pantyhose goes, Hosiery, also referred to as leg wear, describes garments worn directly on the feet and legs. The term originated as the collective term for products of which a maker or seller is termed a hosier; and those products are also known generically as hose. The term is also used for all types of knitted fabric, and its thickness and weight is defined by denier or opacity. Lower denier measurements of 5 to 15 describe a hose which may be sheer in appearance, whereas styles of 40 and above are dense, with little to no light able to come through on 100 denier items.  Another word for this would be called opaque.  Also to be further researched on wikipedia.

But at the end of the day, sheer fabrics have been used for centuries in various cultures for clothing, decoration and functional purposes. Ancient Greeks and Romans used sheer fabrics for draping in their homes and for clothing, such as tunics and togas made from lightweight linen. During the Renaissance, sheer fabrics became popular for intricate embroidery and lace-making. In the Victorian era, sheer fabrics were used for blouses and undergarments, with heavier drapes used to cover windows and provide privacy. Today, sheer fabrics are widely used in modern fashion for a variety of styles and purposes.

Just like a sheer fetishist is a person who has a sexual fetish or interest in sheer or transparent clothing, fabrics or lingerie. Our fetish often involves an appreciation for the look or feel of sheer materials and the way they hug and reveal the body, for the “newbees” here. Some individuals may derive pleasure or arousal from wearing or seeing others wear sheer clothing, while others may prefer to watch sheer clothing being removed or even masturbate whilst wearing sheer leggings. It’s important to note that having a fetish is a normal part of human sexuality, as long as it is safe and consensual for all parties involved, no one should give a fuck, imho.

Sheer leggings can be seen as erotic because they are form-fitting and can emphasize the curves of the body. The sheer material can also provide a tantalizing glimpse of skin underneath, which can be alluring to some individuals. Additionally, sheer leggings can be worn in a variety of settings, such as at the gym or as part of a casual outfit, which can add to their erotic appeal. However, it’s important to note that what is considered erotic is subjective and can vary greatly from person to person.  I used to go into shops at the mall when I was a kid and would specifically look for women who wore sheer pantyhose.  I would then pretend to be a “pledge” in a fraternity but I had to smell a woman’s feet or I couldn’t join the fraternity.  To this day, I have “souvenirs” on claire’s boutique, anne taylor, the gap, etc. stationary with multiple sales women writing a note that they had let me smell their feet..  Haha, it’s the little things in life sometimes.  To look up at these giggling silly women with they’re hot southern California feet firmly planted on my sweaty teenage face.  Idk, I’m just glad that I got to experience that as a kid in the 80’s when malls were such a big deal, haha.  I also realized that most all sweaty Goddesses are just varying shades of hot, wet ammonia.  And they thought enough to share that special memory with me.

Sheer Nylon is a synthetic polymer that is often used to make hosiery and stockings. Nylons can have a smooth and shiny appearance, which some people may find visually appealing and sexy. Additionally, wearing nylons can create a sensual sensation on the skin, and the way they cling to the legs or body can accentuate curves and create a flattering silhouette. Ultimately, what one person finds sexy can be subjective and based on personal preference.  “Sheer fetishists” or “nylon fetishists” are people who have a sexual attraction or preference for hosiery made of sheer or translucent materials, such as nylon stockings, pantyhose, or tights. These individuals may find the look and feel of sheer hosiery arousing and may incorporate it into their sexual fantasies or activities. Like any fetish, it is important to understand and respect boundaries and obtain explicit consent from all parties involved in any sexual activity. It is also important to remember that not everyone will share the same fetish or sexual preferences.  I have found this true, for the most part.  It’s a rare day when you can just manipulate a woman into letting you play with her sheer leggings.  Personally, I’ve found that offering 60 – 80 bucks or so helps negate the small talk and you can get right to creating erotic memories that you can jack off to time and time again.  Doing this is also extremely freaking “naughty” and so you get a free mind fuck out of it too.
